KYH: Know Your History
The antiquity of black people is one that is overly saturated with deposits of evil and hatred. Has anyone noticed black people are treated less than all over this planet? What planet is racism free? We need to invent that safe space. To prevent repeating the past we must know our history that isn’t struggle and oppression. We have always made a way out of it. This moment is no different. Let’s learn and record our own history. We are responsible for what happens next, we must come together and create our own.
Slavery, Harriett Tubman & the Underground railroad, Martin Luther King, and Rosa Parks pretty much sums up the US black history reviewed in public schools. Literally, that is it. A very broad summary of long deadly wars blacks have fought against the leaders of the powerful structure known as the United States government. Getting the bare minimum has always been an uphill battle on a down escalator yet we sing, dance, and laugh our way to the top. The journey is a migration picked up by the consecutive generations to run the next leg.
To cross the finish line we must know the previous generation’s obstacles. Greenwood District and Seneca Village are predominately black areas in Tulsa, OK and present day Central Park respectively. Both areas where majority of the land was owned by black people. Google them and let me know if you learned about that in school.
